Paper Description
The aim of this paper is to introduce students to the learning and teaching of the Arts disciplines (Dance, Drama, Music-Sound Arts and Visual Art) in the primary school curriculum.
Paper Structure
The Introductory Lecture for this paper is on Monday 28 June, from 8.30 to 10.30 in Room TL.2.26.
The Online Observation Module (observing and reflecting on the Arts in your base school) is as follows:

Teaching the Arts (ONE lesson in EACH discipline)
Please note that you will have four weeks to teach all four disciplines separately. You could teach two separate lessons on one day, but spread them out - not one after the other if possible.
Dance and Drama - 3-14 September 2018
Music-Sound Arts and Visual Arts - 17-28 September 2018.
Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete the course should be able to:
Assessment
- Pre-campus observation tasks in each discipline - two separate online postings in all four disciplines by the due dates. (All posts must be completed by Sunday 19 August.)
- On campus participation - completed on campus plus separate online postings in all four disciplines by Monday 3 September.
- Teaching placement in schools - online reflection:
- Dance - 1 online post by 17 September
- Drama - 1 online post by 17 September
- Music-Sound Arts - 1 online post by 1 October
- Visual Art - 1 online post by 1 October.
PLease note
Full attendance at workshops is compulsory; as class interactions cannot be made up. This paper is internally assessed. In order to meet the requirement of this paperall assignments must be submitted on or before the due date. Unless accompanied by an official extension, assignments submitted after the due date will be accepted, but not formally marked. If the teaching assignment is not completed and submitted then the overall paper requirements are not completed and the student will receive an IC (incomplete) final grade. An IC is treated as a failing grade.
Assessment Components
The internal assessment/exam ratio (as stated in the University Calendar) is 100:0. There is no final exam.
